In the SecurityInfoWatch.com article, “Global security threats organizations must prepare for in 2019,” it outlines key cyber threats and security concerns businesses should prepare for in 2019, according to the Information Security Forum.

From the article: “In the year ahead, businesses of all sizes must prepare for the unknown so they have the flexibility to withstand unexpected and high impact security events. To take advantage of emerging trends in both technology and cyberspace, businesses need to manage risks in ways beyond those traditionally handled by the information security function, since new attacks will most certainly impact both shareholder value and business reputation.”

Some of these cyber threats referenced in the article include the following:

  • Growing sophistication of cybercrime and ransomware: The article said that organizations will have a difficult time keeping up with this increased sophistication in malware threats, and especially ransomware, which it predicts will become the leading cyberattack method by cybercriminals.
  • Smart devices and cyber challenges: Increased adoption of smart devices will create more opportunities for attackers to exploit vulnerabilities. Also, there will be “an increasing lack of transparency in the rapidly-evolving IoT ecosystem, with vague terms and conditions that allow organizations to use personal data in ways customers did not intend.”
